Produced in the 1800s, the American market was loaded with customers demanding quality edged weapons and utility blades, which the smiths of Sheffield were happy to supply. When closed, this knife measures 11 inches overall, with a 5 3/8 inch single edged spear point blade, opening up to a full length of 16 inches, with a 10 3/8 inch blade marked "MADE FOR THE UNITED STATE BY SAMUEL C. WRAGG/DIRK KNIFE MAKER No 2 FURNACE HILL SHEFFIELD" on the left flat and "IMPROVED/PATENT/CUTLERY" on the ricasso. The hilt has a pair of dual quillion German silver guards, with serrations on one set and American eagles on the other. Grips are smooth ivory, with an oval inscription panel on one side.
