Composer (1910–1981) whose Adagio for Strings is widely considered a masterpiece of modern classical music. ALS signed “Sam,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, no date. In part: “This is o.k. but I think I would delete all ‘musical expression marks’ for the text. Also I would omit spaces, since they are really not in stanza form. Should I have contracts for these ‘Two Scenes,’ also for the 2 choruses? Or did I get them??!” He has added the postscript: “The total of Ascap for ‘67, when I added it up, was virtually the same as ‘66, not less.” In very good condition, with two punch holes along the left edge, a mailing fold passing through his name, several small staple holes and tiny paper loss at the top left corner, and wrinkling and minor paper separation along the right side. This letter’s mention of “Two Scenes” corresponds to his work, ‘Two Scenes from Antony and Cleopatra.’ Born in 1910, this year marks Barber’s centenary.
