American boxer (1904–1967), known as the ‘Rockford Sheik,’ who was world lightweight champion from 1926 to 1930 and who was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1998. Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 Marsh Studios portrait, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Al Stedman, With Best Wishes from Sammy Mandell.” Scattered creasing touching the start of his sentiment, a bit of loss to the emulsion at the top right corner, light soiling, and silvering to the darker areas, otherwise fine condition.
