Salvador Dali Woodblock Print, The Logician Devil, Divine Comedy
Color woodblock print by Salvador Dali titled The Logician Devil (Inferno: Canto 27), from his 1964 Divine Comedy series. Commissioned to illustrate Dante Alighieri's epic poem, this work interprets a moment from Inferno's Canto 27, where the damned soul of Guido da Montefeltro recounts how he used cunning and logic to deceive, earning eternal punishment. Dali renders the scene in surreal, symbolic form: a grotesque, contorted figure with a bone piercing its skull and a tongue forking downward, a haunting vision of intellect twisted into corruption. This unsigned print was published as part of the original edition and is certified on verso by a stamp and signature from Frank Hunter, President of the Salvador Dali Archives Ltd., New York. Elegantly framed with archival matting and a gold gilt frame with nameplate.
