19th century metal salt box tin from Scotland offers designs on both sides,front ad backplate with a more faded one on the lid in tan and gold against a mahogany toned background. Brass base metal. Meanufactured by the John Buchanan & Bros. Limited Company in Glasgow as shown on the bottom and filled with their confections or chocolates so that the salt box tin could be enjoyed after the sweets were gone. Large hole in the backplate for hanging in one's kitchen for any number of items. Condition is still good despite minor rust on bottom and tiny dent right lower corner. Measures 7.75L X 6.75H X 6D.
