Saloon Photo with M. Welte & Sohne Coin Pipe Organ - c1900 :
Great interior saloon photograph with one old timer standing at the bar and an excellent shot of a M. Welte & Sohn Coin Pipe Organ. M. Welte & Söhne originated in Germany in the 1830s, but the son opened a sales office in New York City in 1906 and a factory in Poughkeepsie in 1913. The company manufactured flute clocks and barrel orchestrators (early years), roll-operated orchestrions (c1887-1920s), pipe organs (1900-WWII; mostly between 1913-1929), reproducing pianos (1904-1929). They also marketed a few fairground organs and coin pianos. Welte & Sohn has been termed "one of the world's most important automatic musical manufacturing companies". Photograph measures 8.75" X 6.5" and is mounted on grey cardstock. The image is excellent quality with clear focus and contrast. Slightly yellowed. Good condition.
