Salmon P. Chase document signed, ''S Chase'' as Governor of Ohio. Chase later served as Abraham Lincoln's Treasury Secretary and as a Supreme Court Justice. Partially-printed document dated 28 November 1856 pertains to the appointment of one Marcenas C. Lawrence as Notary Public. Countersigned by James H. Baker as Ohio Secretary of State, document on parchment bears a pink Ohio seal and embossed Probate Court seal. Runs 1pp. Measures 11.75'' x 9''. Ink notations to verso, creasing and a small tear to bottom edge at center. Very good overall.
