Salem Assortment. 1) $3. (MA-1120 S15). Orange title and dies. White 3s in counters at sides. Orange THREE in counter at bottom. VF-EF, repaired split small chip, top. 2) Salem Bank. $5. Oct. 1, 1810. (MA-1130 ). Sailing ship, left. Oval frame, right. Unlisted counterfeit, perhaps. About Fine, light stains. 3) $5. (MA-1115 G30 SENC). Perkins plate. Mounted on a blue piece of a ledger sheet. Notations on the ledger sheet state that this is a cancelled bank note of ``...the First emission. Redeemed 1870.'' The fact that this institution, which later became the Mercantile National Bank of Salem, continued to redeem obsolete notes well into the National Banking era explains why the vast majority of its obsolete notes are not obtainable in issued form. VG-Fine, pen cancelled, and there is a small POC.
