2 pages. Excellent condition. "Letter to Gen. from Yr Friend Milton S. Latham" describes the split of the Union to the Hon. J. W. Denver. Latham says he will stand by the Union and hopes the state of California does the same. He writes "Fealty to the Union, to the end, is my Platform." Poignant letter demonstrating various feelings and thoughts people had over southern succession. Latham was the sixth governor of California, who only was in office for 5 days before resigning. At the time this letter written, he was in Washington D. C. as the state's Senator. The letter expressed his private thoughts to his friend. Historians of California history will delight in this letter!
