This 18th century Sack-back Windsor was made in Philadelphia.
The poplar seat (soft wood) and Hickory and Oak were used to
build this early armchair. It is in good condition with a number
of old repaired cracks and breaks. The knuckle handholds have
lost their under plates. The finish is an old darkened one over
the original buttermilk paint. Charles Santore's book- "The
Windsor Style in America" will help us understand this Windsor
