Sachsenhausen (Oranienburg). Letter, De
Sachsenhausen (Oranienburg). Letter, Dec. 20, 1942, written on lettersheet of this concentration camp, from inmate to his wife in Poland. A paragraph at top, printed in red, gives instructions to the writer, signed in type by Commander of the camp. About 200,000 prisoners were in this camp near Berlin from 1936 to 1945, half dying from disease, starvation, medical experiments, or were murdered. Theologian Martin Niemoller imprisoned here. The camp was also the site of the largest counterfeiting operation, over one billion dollars in fake currency recovered. Two small binding holes, else very fine. The Oranienburg postmark cancelled on Hitler's face on stamp.
