<B>SUPERB DINOSAUR SKULL</B></I><BR> <I>Protoceratops andrewsi<BR>Cretaceous<BR>Central Asia</B></I><BR>One of the most famous dinosaurs of all time, Protoceratops was originally discovered by Roy Chapman Andrews of the American Museum of Natural History during the highly-publicized expeditions to Mongolia in the 1920's. These expeditions produced the first dinosaur eggs ever found, along with a fantastic variety of complete skeletons and skulls of previously unknown dinosaurs. These incredible and exquisitely preserved remains inspired the imaginations of the American people and the world and produced record viewings of the exhibits at the American Museum; indeed, a fund-raising event was held to benefit the museum and a single dinosaur egg fetched the then unheard-of sum of $5,000 at auction. The Protoceratops was a primitive Neoceratopsian, most probably the ancestors of the giant horned dinosaur, Triceratops, whose nemesis was Tyrannosaurus rex, the greatest dinosaur predator of all time. This specimen has been professionally cleaned and restored with approximately 15% of its missing surface area replaced and matched to the original bone color and texture. This restoration is primarily in the upper beak area and the frill.
