Bahadur Shah was the last of the great king of Gujarat. He was a man of action, His reign was full of Military turmoil. Gujarat was under pressure from the expanding Mughal Empire under emperors Babur and Humayun, and also from the Portuguese, who were establishing fortified settlements on the Gujarat coast. At one time Bahadur Shah held sway, however precariously, over a large area and had his name read in the Khutba in many places not only in Gujarat & Malwa but elsewhere. Bahadur was not only Great Military Leader but He was a great patron of the Hindustani Classical music and its artists, including famous Baiju Bawra.
A unique feature of Gujarat coinage up to & including the reign of Bahadur is the Pedigree Tanka’s. The legend on this coin contains the name of the ruler forbears back to the beginning of the dynasty. All these coins are extremely rare & were probably struck as accession commemoratives
