STS 51A Robbins 46x37mm Sterling Silver Medallion (#173) Issued to commemorate the 14th space shuttle mission - November 1984 (2nd flight of the space shuttle Discovery). Mission highlights include deployment of Telesat-H (Anik-D2) and Syncom IV-1 (leasat-1) satellites; first retrieval of two satellites for return to Earth - Palapa-B2 and Westar-VI (both deployed on mission 41-B); Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) used to retrieve satellites. The crew patch depicting the Space Shuttle Discovery en route to Earth orbit for NASA's 51-A mission is reminiscent of a soaring Eagle, generate memories of America's 208 year-old history and traditions. The two satellites orbiting the Earth background amidst a celestial scene are a universal representation of the versatility of the Space Shuttle.
