STS 51-G Robbins 41x37mm Sterling Silver Medallion (#184) Issued to commemorate the 18th space shuttle mission - June 1985 (5th flight of the space shuttle Discovery). Mission highlights include deployment of Morelos-A (Mexico), Arabsat-A, and Telstar-3D satellites; deployment and retrieval of SPARTAN-1 astronomy research satellite. The crew patch depicts the advances in aviation technology in the United States within a relatively short span of the twentieth century. It is dominated by a golden eagle, flying steadfastly and determined into the future. Beyond, the Shuttle flies in formation atop the Wright Flyer. The orbiter rides above the antique plane, to show that each advance in the world of technology is carried by the accomplishments that have preceded it. Together, with the eagle, they look into the future towards America's continuing role as the world's leader in space exploration. Only 206 medallions were produced for this mission, of which 93 were flown and 113 were not. This medallion was not flown. Rare. Estimate: $ 300 - 350.
