<p><b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext'>STEPHEN VINCENT BENÉT </span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial; color:windowtext'>(1898-1943). Pulitzer Prize winning American author and poet remembered for his short story “The Devil and Daniel Webster.” Among his works which included volumes of poetry and novels, are the two for which he was twice awarded the Pulitzer, the narrative poems <i>John Brown’s Body</i> (1929) and the posthumously awarded <i>Western Star</i> (1944). TLS, 1p, 4to, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, ca. 1928. Benét responds to George Sargent in NH regarding <i>‘John Brown’s Body’</i>. In part, “<i>I am writing Doubleday Doran to send you a copy...I should be very glad to autograph it, but I haven’t had my own copies here yet and I am sailing for America next week.</i>..” Boldly signed in full. General light toning; normal folds; o/w a Fine example. Accompanied by original transmittal envelope which evidences mounting tape remains on recto.</span></p>

1. Auction Catalogue No. 19 is a Mail, Fax, Phone, Email and
Internet Live Bid Auction and is conducted under the laws of the State
of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License
No. 002.
2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.

6. In the event of duplicate high bids, the earliest bid received
will be the winner.

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within seven day
providing that it comes back in the same condition. There is a

15. The placing of a bid shall constitute acceptance of the
