<p><b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:windowtext'>STEPHEN VINCENT BENÉT </span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial; color:windowtext'>(1898-1943). Pulitzer Prize winning American author and poet remembered for his short story “The Devil and Daniel Webster.” Among his works which included volumes of poetry and novels, are the two for which he was twice awarded the Pulitzer, the narrative poems <i>John Brown’s Body</i> (1929) and the posthumously awarded <i>Western Star</i> (1944). TLS, 1p, 4to, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, ca. 1928. Benét responds to George Sargent in NH regarding <i>‘John Brown’s Body’</i>. In part, “<i>I am writing Doubleday Doran to send you a copy...I should be very glad to autograph it, but I haven’t had my own copies here yet and I am sailing for America next week.</i>..” Boldly signed in full.
