At that time, the Confederacy had no ships and no sailors. He encouraged the building of the new “iron clads” and set about buying ships from England and France. He escaped Richmond in the company of Davis in 1865. ALS, 1p, small 4to, Washington, DC, Feb 18, 1853. To Col. S. Cooper, US Adjutant General. In full, “<i>Herewith I enclose for your consideration a Resolution of the Genl. assembly of my state. I have thought that the object might be accomplished without the action of Congress. I shall feel obliged to you for information in relation to it</i>...” Light dampstain and wrinkling at lower blank margin; o/w VG. <b>Samuel Cooper</b> (1798-1876), later became the highest-ranking CSA general officer, serving in the CSA in the same capacity as Adjutant General.

11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,
whichever is higher.

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject
to increased charges. All items are shipped
immediately upon receipt of payment.

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
must be returned with two letters denying it’s
authenticity by expert authenticators acceptable
