Oil on canvas. Featuring figures in a salon scene. Signed and attr. Stephane Gisclard (French, born 1966) on the lower left corner.. 34 x 24 cm (13.4 x 9.5 inches). Stephane Gisclard was born in Beziers in 1966. Infused with a nostalgic mood, his subject matter is inspired by his city and his region. Gisclard is a storyteller of light with exceptional control. Full of color, shadow, and light, the work is steeped in a mythology anchored by his city's ports, bars, and architecture, which are common topics. Weaving stories with his paints and brushes, it is as if Stéphane has written novels and made them come to life. While greatly influenced by African art, and the great masters of Cubism, including Picasso, Gris, Metzinger, and Braque, Gisclard retains his own personality drawing on powerful, animation-inspired graphics and distinctive Mediterranean light.
