A C-3PO "Oscar" statue presented to special visual effects supervisor Brian Johnson for his work on Irvin Kershner's Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. Created by the Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) team, this statue was given to Johnson by chief model maker Lorne Peterson to commemorate his vital contribution to the film. Johnson received a Special Achievement Academy Award for his work in visual effects in 1981 - a category that did not exist at that time - alongside Richard Edlund, Dennis Muren and Bruce Nicholson.

The C-3PO figure was created using a modified MPC model kit which was then cast in resin and finished in metallic faux gold to replicate C-3PO's distinctive plating. The droid holds a crusader's sword, a feature seen on the genuine Academy-Award statues, and is mounted to a custom round plastic base that is painted faux silver. "ILM 1981, In Appreciation, Brian Johnson, Empire Strikes Back" is inscribed in black marker around the top of the base. Forty-two crew members have autographed the base in black marker, including Richard Edlund (Special Visual Effects), Dennis Muren (Effects Director of Photography), Joe Johnston (Art Director Visual Effects), Ken Ralston (Effects Cameraman), Selwyn Eddy III (Assistant Cameraman), Michael McAlister (Assistant Cameraman), Warren Franklin (Optical Line-up), Laurie Vermont (Optical Coordinator), Lorne Peterson (Chief Model Maker), Steve Gawley (Model Shop Foreman), Tom St. Amand (Stop-Motion Technician), Samuel Comstock (Animator), Conrad Buff (Visual Effects Editorial Supervisor), Howard Stein (Assistant Effects Editor), Mike MacKenzie (Electronic Engineer), Ed Jones (Laboratory Technician), Duncan Myers (Laboratory Technician), Ed Breed (Stage Technician), Ed Hirsh (Stage Technician), Patrick Fitzsimmons (Stage Technician), Bob Finley III (Stage Technician), Patricia Blau (Production Secretary), Laura Kaysen (Admin), Chrissie England (Admin).

There is evidence of repair work where the figure's feet have been reattached to the base. Some of the signatures have smudged and faded over time, and there is light paint wear on the figure and base. The gold-coloured part of the base remains fragile and the lot should be handled with care. Dimensions: 34 cm x 15 cm x 15 cm (13 1/4" x 6" x 6")

Estimate: 8,000 - 10,000 M
