Stanton"" as Secretary of War, 1p. folio parchment, March 13, 1865, an appointment of Russell M. Tuttle to serve as brevet captain of the volunteers as a result of meritorious conduct during the war. Co-signed by EDWARD D. TOWNSEND (1817-1893), adding rank. Minor folds with some slight paper loss in upper left corner, affects one letter of Townsend's signature, else very good. Included is a carte-de-visite of Lt. Tuttle in uniform from the bust up. Published by Schreiber, Phila. Minor edge wear and soiling, else very good. Service and pension records included in the lot.
