FIRST EDITION, first issue, pages viii, 135, without the two advertisement leaves sometimes found at end, large 12mo, contemporary half morocco : ink stain on small portion of upper outer fore-edge (not extending onto the leaf) : otherwise a very good-nice copy.BAL 12121 : precedes the US edition. (3) [GREEN ( Henry )]. A Manchester Book. The Cat in Chancery ; or, 'The Song of the Cat', a legend of law ; not contained in any of the records : in three fits. With notes and annotations collected for the Rolls Office ; edited by a Master out of Chancery. Simpkin, Marshall … Manchester : J. Heywood … (1858). FIRST EDITION, 6 plates, 133-pp, large 12mo, original red cloth, gilt, edges gilt, neatly rebacked, new endpapers, retaining most of original backstrip: a good to very good copy.Green (1801-73), Unitarian minister, conducted a large private school, wrote several handbooks to Euclid, was closely involved in various educational projects, including the Allostock chapel school, Cheshire, of which he was the founder in 1847 and manager until 1858. He was a close friend and colleague of the Revd William Gaskell and his wife, the novelist Elizabeth Gaskell, and was a very highly regarded and conscientious pastor. His main interest was, however, in the history of dissent and Unitarianism in northern England, Cheshire in particular(DNB). (4) [BUCHANAN ( Robert W. )]. Saint Abe and His Seven Wives. FIRST UK EDN, 12 plates after Eytinge, Sheppard, Hallock, Beard, & others, pp (2, blank), vi, (9) - 292, (2, blank), complete thus, cr 8vo, orig green pictorial cloth, gilt : very good.First published New York 1874. This UK edition is not in NUC and though mentioned in BAL is not described there. Stockton (1834-1902), Philadelphia novelist, best known for his children's stories. (6) STOCKALL ( Harriett ). Poems.
