STALIN, JOSEPH
172. JOSEPH STALIN An outstanding and very rare A.N.S. penned at the bottom of a page, 1p. 8vo. [Moscow?], June 13, 1937, beneath a playful note written by Stalin to his daughter, Svetlana, or "Setanka" as he called her. During this bloody period of Stalin's purges of the government and military, the ruthless dictator takes time to accept orders from his daughter. In orange and blue indelible pencil, Svetlana writes at top: "To: Secretary No. 1 Comrade Josef Stalin Top Secret Order No. 7 I order you to leave for Soshi [a Black Sea resort] as soon as possible". She adds a triangle with a red star within, noting that it is her "Seal" and signs "Setanka - The Owner". She also adds an arrow and writes "Signature" indicating where her father should sign. In orange indelible pencil Stalin, corrects a spelling error made by the child, and writes: "To be obeyed Secretary of Setanka, The Owner. J. Stalin". Fine condition. $2,500-3,500
