STALIN DECLARES THE END OF THE SIEGE OF LENINGRAD
Dramatic broadside, 10 3/4" x 15 3/4", [Moscow], Jan. 19, 1944, signed in type by Josef Stalin, announces the end of the devastating 900 day siege and starvation of Leningrad. Loosely translated, it reads in part: "...Armies of the Leningrad Front having gone over to the offensive from areas of the Pulkovo and to the south...have broken through strongly...and after five days of intense fighting the battles have moved ahead in each direction from 12 up to 20 kilometers and have expanded their breakthrough on each side of the approaches up to 35 to 40 kilometers...". Minor edge wear and a small 1" split at one margin, else near fine. The siege continued until 27 January 1944, when the Soviet Leningrad-Novgorod Strategic Offensive expelled German forces from the southern outskirts of the city. This was a combined effort by the Leningrad and Volkhov Fronts, along with the 1st and 2nd Baltic Fronts.

Estimate: $300 - 400.
