STALAG LUFT III RED CROSS MUG
STALAG LUFT III RED CROSS MUG
Tin mug, 3 1/4" tall and 3 3/4" diameter, covered with white enamel throughout and additional black enamel on the rim and handle, given by the American Red Cross to Allied soldiers interned at Stalag Luft III. Features a paper label, which reads: "A Gift of AMERICAN RED CROSS, Made in U.S.A." The label bears the Red Cross emblem, and has been secured to the cup more recently with a strip of cello tape. Stalag Luft III was a German POW camp in Silesia, now western Poland, which was operated by the Luftwaffe. It held captured British and American airmen. It is best known for being the site of the massive breakout of 76 men, depicted in the film "The Great Escape". The camp was bulldozed at the end of the war. Very good. Ex. Bonham's
