STALAG LUFT III ELECTRIC FENCE BRACKET AND INSULATOR
STALAG LUFT III ELECTRIC FENCE BRACKET AND INSULATOR
Curved metal bracket, approx. 21" long, used to support barbed wire atop an electric fence at Stalag Luft III, along with a porcelain insulator, 2 3/4" in diameter, from the same electric fence system. The bracket is heavily oxidized, and the base of the insulator is broken, with chipped enamel in several other places. Stalag Luft III was a German POW camp in Silesia, now western Poland, which was operated by the Luftwaffe. It held captured British and American airmen. It is best known for being the site of the massive breakout of 76 men, depicted in the film "The Great Escape". The camp was bulldozed at the end of the war, and these relics were excavated by Polish souvenir hunters in the 1950's. Good excavated condition. Ex. Bonham's
