Extremely rare, four copies known, Baird 34. This is one of the rare California illustrated letter sheets published during the Gold Rush era. It contains seven different scenes of operations at the Mint. They are the same scenes as published in Hutchings' Illustrated California Magazine. Made by A. Nahl, Butler, Eastman, Herrick Sc. Wood engraving; 25 x 22 cm (overall) includes 7 illustrations: Making the Granulations; Front View Of The San Francisco Branch Mint; Cleaning the Planchets; Running The Gold Into Ingots; Rolling And Cutting Room; Adjusting Room; Stamping into Coin. Published by Hutching & Rosenfield. Hutchings' Illustrated California Magazine was published between 1856 and 1861, in San Francisco.
