No. 416 Memoranda of Gold bullion deposited with Kellogg & Richter by Adams & Co. Printed on thin light blue paper with black ink, measuring 8 x 6 inches. the preprinted description is "Gold Dust". Its weight before melting was given in pennyweights as 2050 dwt, Loss in Melting 54 dwt, Net 1776 dwt. Fineness .866 for a value of $1786.60; Net Proceeds $1746.40 after a 2 1/4% commission and costs. Some folds, but otherwise very fine. Nearly unique and exceptionally rare R 8 (3 known). One can easily imagine the Kellogg $20 gold pieces of 1854 may have come from gold reported on this assay receipt. San Francisco California Franklin Collection
