<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899>The “Squirrel Hunters” were citizen volunteers called in September 1862 to defend Cincinnati, OH, from possible attack by Confederate soldiers. These volunteers provided their own weapons, ammunition and dress. Wonderful collection of associated artifacts and documents. <i>The Squirrel Hunters of Ohio or Glimpses of Pioneer Life</i>, by N.E. Jones, M.D., 12mo, 363pp, Cincinnati, 1898. First edition, illustrated, in excellent condition. Sheet music for the “Squirrel Hunter’s March,” 4pp, John Church, 1863. A blue tinted lithograph of troops crossing the Ohio River in Cincinnati by moonlight is featured on the cover. Light scattered foxing in margins. Plus two partly printed DsS, an ornately illustrated “Squirrel Hunter’s Discharge” issued to John E. Smith of Warren County, Sep 1862, and signed by <b><font size=-1>Chas. W. Hill</font></b>, Adjt. Gen. of OH and <b><font size=-1>Malcolm McDowell,</font></b> Major and ADC; and a printed message of appreciation to Smith for his gallantry as he went “<i>to our Southern border to repel the invaders, and who will be known in history as the ‘SQUIRREL HUNTERS'.</i>..” Signed in print by Ohio Governor David Tod. Normal toning; occasional edge tears with no paper loss; some wear and creasing, especially at edges. Overall VG with noted exceptions.

acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,

invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
