SPRINGFIELD “QUAKER” TRAINING RIFLE
SPRINGFIELD “QUAKER” TRAINING RIFLE. Unusual rifle built to resemble an 1862 Springfield allegedly for drill by the Quakers who were opposed to the war. It has about 6” of an original bbl with bayonet lug front sight and about 2” of the chamber area from an original rifle. The middle section of bbl is a black painted wooden rod. It has the split front band with brass sight and solid ramrod from earlier rifles. The middle band is thick and from another rifle, without keeper. Lock and hammer are from an 1864-dated Springfield and it has a 2-pc trigger guard with a steel buttplate without trap. NSN. CONDITION: Fine, the iron retains a dark attic patina with fine pitting overall heavy on the trigger guard and buttplate. Seldom encountered Civil war oddity. 4-49456 JR224
