The handle of this American cane is a small sperm whale tooth. The tooth has a scrimshaw engraving of "C. T.Bunting, N. York." The 1/8" collar, eyelets and 4 diamond decorations on the tapering fruitwood shaft are c. 800silver. The shaft ends in a 1.5" brass and steel ferrule. Leather strap through eyelets is a replacement. Overall length,37.5". Minor wear to inscription, small age cracks in tooth near collar. A nice piece of sailor's art.(EST 600-800)
