<B>SPECTACULAR GOLD NUGGET - THE "PROVIDENCE NUGGET"</B></I><BR> <I>Northern Australia</B></I><BR>This spectacular partially crystallized nugget, known as the "Providence Nugget", was found by Jack Lange, the well-known Australian prospector and contributor to <I>The Australian Gold Gem And Treasure</B></I> magazine. In his own words: "<I>I called this magnificent 1100 gram (35.3 troy ounces) nugget the "Providence Nugget' because of the circumstances surrounding its discovery. My brother Ed and I decided to try an area we hadn't prospected before in northern Queensland. I detected the nugget within minutes of getting out of my vehicle at only about 45 cm depth! Another week of searching the surrounding area produced nothing...so this was truly a providential find, thus the "Providence Nugget".</B></I> It is considerably harder to find a good and large nugget from this area than from the comparatively richer goldfields in Southern Australia, and this piece is a huge one. It exhibits a lot of surface area for the weight because the nugget is flattened like a pancake, considered the best for collectors because of the weight to presentation face ratio. In addition, it is partially <BR>crystallized - extremely rare in a find of this size- and displays a rich and brilliant crystalline sheen with the vibrant color indicating its high purity.
