Kosoff, A. [Numismatic Gallery]. CATALOGUE OF THE MICHAEL F. HIGGY COLLECTION, COLUMBUS, OHIO. UNITED STATES GOLD, SILVER AND COPPER COINS, FOREIGN GOLD AND CROWNS, COLONIALS, PATTERNS AND PRIVATE GOLD. New York, Sept. 10–11, 1943. 4to [trimmed to 26 by 21 cm], original blue quarter baby calf, gilt; front cover lettered in gilt, with JAMES KELLY impressed in gilt at base. 86, (2), (4) pages; 1852 lots; portrait; illustrated; prices realized list tipped in. Fine. James Kelly’s privately bound copy of this important sale, later in the library of Armand Champa. The style of the binding, with its distinctive navy blue baby calf, points to New York binder Ben A. Martin, who bound various Numismatic Gallery and Stack’s special editions around this time. That Martin did other binding work for Kelly is attested to by Kelly’s copy of the Flanagan sale bound in the same fashion included in this sale (lot 224). Ex Davis/Bowers Champa Library Sale (Sale III, lot 2408).
