<b>1217. JARED SPARKS</b> (1789-1866) American historian, bought and edited <i>North American Review</i> and published the writings of Washington and Franklin. Lot of three A.L.S.'s, the first 1p. 4to., Boston, Jan. 24, 1832 to G. C. Verplank expressing his excitement in Verplank's <i>"...continuance of the Diplomatic Correspondence. You mention three volumes. I have examined the papers only in a cursory manner but my impression has been, that there would be from three to five volumes...The Index, if well executed will occupy at least half a volume...</i>". The next A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Washington, Mar. 22, 1830, concerns the papers of Benjamin Franklin informing his corespondent <i>"...that there is no occasion for haste in replying to my queries about Franklin's letters and papers...for the present I am only looking round for materials for an edition of Franklin's Works...</i>" The third A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Cambridge, Feb. 4, [n.y.], is a cursory note to the Post Master. Three pieces bearing marginal and fold tears, one letter trimmed at bottom, overall very good.<b>$150-250</b>
