SPAIN, Madrid, bust 2 reales, Charles III, 1778 PJ, NGC / excavation recovery (Marblehead Hoard Label). Cal-627; KM-412.1. Though coins of the Spanish New World colonial mints (Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru) made up a majority of this hoard, a few coins from Spain show how early United States commerce saw a blend of European and South American coinage. At the time of the hoard's burial, this coin would have functioned as a quarter dollar or 25 cent piece. VF with decent obverse showing a bold date while the reverse is heavily encrusted and stained.
