(SOLDIERS WHO CAPTURED JEFFERSON DAVIS)
A great group of nine war-date CDVs and tintypes of soldiers from the 4th Michigan Cavalry. This regiment was on the expedition to capture Jeff Davis and it was the members of this regiment who actually took the fleeing Confederate president into custody, May 10, 1865. Included in the group are Company H members: Captain Henry Potter, 1st Sgt. George Hall, who was captured, while on picket, outside of Nashville in 1862, Corporals Charles Blackall (two different poses), Augustus Wegal, and Daniel Welton, Private James Reynolds, and one unidentified private whose photograph has a Gardner, Washington back stamp thereby, making him possibly one the Davis' escort to Washington. Included is a CDV of the same unidentified man with a woman with a Ypsilanti, Michigan back stamp. Period ink identification on each with tops corners of the cards clipped not affecting the images. Minor soiling, else very good.
