A most uncommon letter written by a slave to her previous owner, 1p. oblong 8vo., Leesburg, Va., [n.d.], in which ex-slave Virginia Moore writes, in part: ""àMiss, Bell, My Dear Mistress, I take this occasion of writing [?] in regard to the butter which I let you have and which you sold to Mr. Adams. I am in much need of the moneyàyou would be doing me a great favorà"" Mounted to an album page which bears a contemporary note: ""Letter written from Bureau of Refugees [from] and ex-slave to her former mistress"". Removed from a Civil War-era scrapbook, mounted, a glue stain at top margin with a few scattered, small stain, overall good to very good. 2115
