Exceedingly rare broadside advertising the sale in New Orleans of 28 named slaves, 1p. 5 1/4"" x 13"", ""Gravier Street [New Orleans], Jan. 14, 1860, with a bold heading: ""28 SLAVES AT AUCTION WILL BE SOLD ON SATURDAY NEXT, JANUARY 14, 1860, At CARMAN'S REAL ESTATE AND SLAVE EXCHANGE"". Additional details of the sale are set forth, followed by a listing of the names, ages, and occupations of the slaves being sold. In part: ""John, aged about 27 years, No. 1 sawyeràHarriet, aged about 38 years, cook, washer & ironeràArsanà(Creole) French and American cookàSofy, aged about 17àhouse girlà"", and so on. All but two of the slaves are sold ""fully guaranteed"", the exceptions being a boy of 14 and a field hand with a disfigured hand. Weakened folds with a few tiny holes along them, some marginal chipping, yet absolutely presentable and fit for display. 2499
