[SKELTON ( Philip )]. The necessity of tillage and granaries. In a letter to a member of parliament living in the county of ------ [.] Dublin : Printed in the Year 1741FIRST (ONLY) EDITION, 64-pages, 8vo, recent paper boards : a very good, uncut copy. Hanson 5521. Signed at end : Triptolemus. Skelton (1708-87), Irish philosopher and divine celebrated for his charity and hypochondria. Hume procured the publication of his dialogues on Deism, and Sherlock warmly commended them. This present pamphlet was inspied by what he witnessed during a period of famine. His local knowledge, and his lifelong struggle against poverty well equipped him to write authoritatively. It contains useful information on current costs and prices of commodities and calls for the extension of tillage farming and the erection of public granaries to alleviate future distress.ENGLISH PRE 1801; DUBLIN PRINTED; ECONOMICS; AGRICULTURE; ; ; ; ; ; ; ;
