Chapman, S.H. and H. SIX AUCTION CATALOGUES. Philadelphia, 1893–1929. Includes: the brothers’ sale of Aug. 10–11, 1893; and Henry’s sales of Dec. 18, 1908; May 12–14, 1915; Dec. 15, 1917; Dec. 19, 1927; and May 7–8, 1929. 8vo, all in original gilt-printed white paper covers. Generally fine or nearly so. A small group of Chapman catalogues. The Chapman brothers dominated the U.S. coin market for more than half a century, from their beginnings in 1879 to Henry’s final sale in 1932. With the Bushnell sale of 1882, they changed the way catalogues were written and collections were presented, ushering in a new era of careful and professional cataloguing that many of their competitors struggled to emulate.
