SIX AUTOGRAPHED WORLD WAR I AIRCRAFT NATIONAL INSIGNIA PAINTED ON CANVAS AND A DISPLAY BOARD WITH ONE GERMAN INSIGNIA ON CANVAS AND PHOTOGRAPHS. Each canvas, painted in the 1960s, carries the signature of an aviator from that nation. British: R. Collishaw, RFC 204; Belgium: Belgian Ace de Meulemeester, “After 41 years!”; Italy: 24 victory ace General Piccio listed his combats and victories; France: Marc Ambrogi signed his canvas in Marseille, 1/8/61; France: Ace A. Heurtaux signed a canvas with the SPA 3 insignia, one of the “Cigogne” squadrons of GC 12; Germany: Alfred Wenz of von Richthofen’s Jasta signed the German example showing a Maltese Cross. Carisella had these insignia painted for the express purpose of collecting autographs. Accompanying the six canvasses is one additional German insignia signed by thirteen members of Jastas 4, 6, 10, and 11. This insignia is mounted on red-painted plywood, 43-1/2” x 35”. 14 captioned photographs depicting von Richthofen, his tri-plane, and his burial surround the canvas. CONDITION: Canvasses are good showing evidence of folding. Display board is stained and dusty. Some of the autographs are fading. From the Collection of the late P. J.
