<hr align=left size=5 width=33% color=#778899><i>An Abridgment Of Sir Walter Raleigh’s History of the World, “In Five Books. Published by Phillip Raleigh, Esquire, the only Grandson to Sir Walter</i>,” London, 1700. Printed for M. Gillyflower, 363pp, to which has been added, Raleigh’s “Premonition to Princes,” and 91 pages on four topics: “On the first Invention of Shipping”; “A Relation of the Action at Cadiz”; “A Dialogue between a Jesuite and a Recusant”; and “An Apology for his unlucky Voyage to Guiana.” From the library of Walter Oakeshott, the well known authority on Raleigh, who penciled several notes on the flyleaf, one of which is, “<i>This book is no 229</i>...” Leather covers are rubbed; one back corner is broken and tattered; the front flyleaf, frontispiece engraving of Raleigh, title page and two-page “Publisher’s Advertisement” are present but disbound and stained; two pages in the “Premonition to Princes” are disbound and several pages have repairs. The remainder of the contents are lightly toned but otherwise intact and legible.
