IMPORTANT NOTE - The Buyer's Premium is now $20 per lot or 20% of the hammer price, whichever amount is greater. However, we have also reduced opening bids on lower value items to adjust for the new Buyer's Premium structure, so all-in costs are still very close to what they were in the past. This change in fee structure will allow us to continue to offer coins valued at less than $100 in addition to our higher value offerings. Contact us with any questions.
SINKIANG: Ya'qub Beg, Rebel, 1865-1877, AR 1/2 miscal (1.67g), Kashgar, AH1293, Cr-37-1.1, A-p3090, a very rare date, Fine. Yakub Beg was a Muslim adventurer of Tajik or Uzbek descent who took advantage of the Muslim revolts across northwestern China during the reign of Tongzhi and established himself as ruler of Kashgaria. Though he was recognized as emir by the Ottoman sultan and his government entered into treaties with Russia and Great Britain, his rule was unpopular with the local population due to his harsh treatment and the cessation of trade. Just a few months after his death in 1877, Xinjiang was completely reconquered by the Qing army under the command of General Zuo Zongtang.
