Confederate lieutenant general; Mexican War veteran. Though he refused commissions from both sides and worked for the neutrality of Kentucky, he decided in favor of the CSA when Kentucky was invaded by the North. Buckner was a lifelong friend of Grant from their West Point days and was pallbearer at his funeral. Boldly penned signature, “<i>S. B. Buckner</i>” on card, 3½"x2". Mounting stains on recto edges, not affecting signature; o/w VG. With brief printed biography.</span></p>

1. Auction Catalogue No. 19 is a Mail, Fax, Phone, Email and
Internet Live Bid Auction and is conducted under the laws of the State
of West Virginia by Gil Griggs, Licensee of Charleston, W. V. License
No. 002.
2. Absentee bid closing date is April 5th, 2002, 10:00 PM EST.
3. There is a 15% Buyer’s Premium charged on the final hammer price
of each lot. An additional 2½% Premium will be added to any lots
purchased through ebayliveauctions.com.
4. The Auctioneer reserves the right to reject any bid for any
reason.

6. In the event of duplicate high bids, the earliest bid received
will be the winner.
