Antique late Victorian silver plated revolving lidded breakfast dish. Used to be known as egg and bacon dishes. Made in England, circa 1880's - 1900.
Measures 16 inches accross. Approx 9 1/2inches high.
Oval shaped with the largest part of the top section fluted, the fluting narrowing to an oval cartouche in the center of the top that would be used to engrave a monogram. This has not been used yet and is waiting for it's new owner's initials.
Borders are slightly stepped - clean, elegant understated lines. Oval opening for holding a ladle.
Stands on 4 cast legs decorated as Egyptian pillars, ending in claw feet, in turn standing on flattened buns. Very beautifully done.
Condition: outside looks very good. Close inspection reveals that one part of the right handle has been re-attached. Inside has very slight wear to the silver, commensurate with age.
3 lozenge pseudo hallmarks. The first is not clear, the second is NS and the 3rd IY.
