SILVER MOUNTED ENGLISH OFFICER’S FLINTLOCK PISTOL,
CIRCA 1770. Cal. 20 bore (approx. 61 cal.). NSN. 14” Overall, 8” brass tapered bbl., engraved breech, “LONDON” on top & London proofs on left breech, including maker “TH” (Thomas Heyling). Breech has steel lined touch hole, chamfered lock w/ waterproof pan, rebated pointed tail engraved w/ sunburst, rear sliding safety, beveled flat serpentine cock & bridled roller frizzen. Frizzen spring has flared rnd. finial. "Mervis & Co" (lock maker) is engraved under pan. Mountings are all silver touch marked “JA” (Jonathan Allen). The armorial cut out sideplate is exquisite & grotesque face on butt shows great detail. European walnut stock attached to bbl. w/ 2 pins. Wood ramrod has polished bone tip. CONDITION: very good overall. Appears original & complete. Tip of triggerguard has old restoration. Silver is fine w/ gray silver patina, brass bbl. cleaned w/ light mustard patina, iron is mixed gray patina, stock is well fit w/ hand worn patina, 2 minor chip repairs showing nice color & some burl.
