Signed and Patented Sterling silver chatelaine in the Art Nouveau / Arts and Crafts style of the Victorian / Edwardian era. Made by William Comyns in London, England 1901-2.

Total length is slightly under 9 inches (to the end of the longest chain). Weighs 76 grams.

Unusual design for a chatelaine - late Art Nouveau / Arts and Crafts with an openwork design of scrolling Lily leaves in 3 related sections, connected by chains. These support 5 wonderfully decorative chains, also with a lily-leaf theme. These would have had various household implements strung on them.

The chatelaine is hallmarked back and front: the top section with it's back hook has the following hallmarks:slightly worn WC (for William Comyns or Comyns and Sons), lion passant, leopard head, date letter 'f'. It also has engraved Registry number (the English equivalent of the Patent). Both other sections have the Rd number engraved on their backs. On their fronts are the lion, leopard and WC hallmarks, as shown in the 'photos.

Very good condition.

Exceptional design and top quality workmanship for which W Comyns was well known.
