SILVER AND GOLD SHIPBUILDER'S MODEL FOR CHARLES MORGAN. A presentation ship model, manufactured of sheet silver with gold-plated accents and gold vermeil upper deck and hull, 15 x 3.75 x 6.75" with the name Laura on the paddlebox. On walnut plinth with engraved silver plaque "Built for Charles Morgan in 1866 By Harlan and Hollingsworth. Tonnage 850." The walking bean arm actually turns the paddles. Gilt highlights on the top of the paddle boxes, smoke stack, with traces of gilt on lifeboats. One half of a gold dollar is inset into the paddle box. The Morgan Line plied the waters from New York to New Orleans. The Laura, whose home base was Bridgewater, Connecticut was a walking beam side-wheeler, and judging by her size, plied an Eastern coastal route. She is on the Connecticut lists from 1872-83.
