The smaller portrait shows an inked profile of a woman with a 19th-century hairstyle; in a frame with label for "Hotel Hendrick Hudson/ Troy, N.Y./ Geisers/ Art and Frame Shop"; 5in. x 4 1/4in. The larger portrait shows the cut paper profile of a woman with a low chignon; in a gilt matte frame with "Hardy's/ Colorado Springs" label. 6 1/4in. x 5 1/8in. Condition: Both in overall good condition; some toning to paper; a portion of the cut silhouette lifting from the paper. This lot and the other Chapman-related items offered in this sale were part of a collection of papers and ephemera related to the Edward Mortimer Chapman (1862-1952) family, including his first wife Isabel Northrop Chapman (1864-1920), and second wife, Louise Wadsworth Chapman (1873-1959). Edward M. Chapman was a Connecticut pastor, academic, and author, and a descendant of Robert Chapman, one of the first settlers of Saybrook, Connecticut (c. 1635).
