SIGNED BY TWO CIVIL WAR GENERALS.
SIGNED BY TWO CIVIL WAR GENERALS. ALS, 1p, December 1863, written by a surgeon in the 10th NY requesting explanation for his discharge from service. Docketed on verso by seven different officers in the 2nd Army Corps, including Alexander Hays as Brigadier General, and Winfield Scott Hancock as Major General. Hays, the much brevetted commander who was severely wounded at Seven Pines, would be killed in action three months after he signed this document. WITH a clipped signature of Sam Hays, Alex's father, and congressman, sheriff and Brig General of the PA Militia, and a contemporary black and white photo of A. Hays. A fine document, signed by two celebrated Generals. Weakness at folds, minor soiling.
