SHEPPARD, SAM
1391. SAM SHEPPARD American neurosurgeon convicted in the 1954 murder of his wife despite his continual denial of any culpability. With the help of F. Lee Bailey, Sheppard was acquitted twelve years later, despite the public's belief that he remained guilty. Sheppard's case was the inspiration for the television series and film "The Fugitive". Outstanding D.S. signed by three principals in the notorious murder case, a check made out to MARILYN REESE SHEPARD, the wife of Dr. Sheppard, Cleveland, Aug. 2, 1946 signed by her father, THOMAS S. REESE. On the verso, the check is endorsed by both MARILYN REESE SHEPPARD and by her alleged murderer, SAM H. SHEPPARD (as "Sam H. Sheppard"). A tragic association piece: Marilyn was, of course, murdered, Sam was convicted of the crime, and Thomas Reese was a shotgun suicide following the murder of his daughter. All of the signatures are bold, punch cancel minimally affects both Sheppards, otherwise fine condition.$400-600
